In Loving Memory of Maria Inez Vigil, March 4, 1921 – April 20, 2012, of El Rito, New Mexico. \r\nShe was preceded in death by her father and mother: Daniel and Cresencia Martinez; husband, Jose Olivar Vigil; daughter, Lorraine V. Trujillo; son, Olivar Vigil, Jr.; infant children: Leroy and Daniel Vigil; great-grandson, Justin Vigil; and brother, Daniel Martinez; granddaughter-in-law, Kim Tanner Vigil.\r\nShe is survived by her children: Jake Vigil (Helen), Amelia Martinez (Ralph), Katie Garcia (Lawrence), Isabel Rodarte (Arthur); granddaughter raised by her, Connie Valdez (Gary); grandson raised by her, Eric Vigil (Josie); 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; son-in-law, Peter P. Trujillo; and numerous other relatives and friends. \r\nBorn on March 4, 1921 in El Rito, New Mexico, Maria Inez exemplified the highest character of strong will. She was a graduate of the Spanish American Normal School. She attended the teachers college at El Rito and continued her education in pursuit of a teaching degree at New Mexico Highlands University.She worked in various positions, including a matron at the girl’s dorms for 2 years at Northern New Mexico Normal School. She enjoyed working within the family business, Olivars Incorporated, in Ojo Caliente for 14 years. She worked alongside her husband J. Olivar, within their sheep ranching operation for 50 years. She prided herself with her math skills as she was extremely proficient. \r\nPublic visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at the San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in El Rito with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in El Rito. Burial will follow at the El Rito Community Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Lawrence Garcia, Peter Trujillo, Raphael Martinez, Bryan Vigil, Jacob Vigil and Antonio Valdez. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Mark Rodarte and Bert Romero. \r\nThe family of Maria Inez Vigil has entrusted the care of their beloved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
