Maria “Virginia” Velarde September, 7, 1943 to November 10, 2025
Virginia Velarde, 82, of Santa Fe, NM, passed peacefully in Hernandez, NM, with her two sons by her side.
She was preceded in death by her husband Estevan “Steve” Velarde, daughter Jennie Trujillo, son Roy Trujillo, and great-granddaughter Mariah Romero.
She is survived by her two sons, Arnold Trujillo and Thomas Velarde, along with four granddaughters Melissa Romero (James), Clarinda Martinez (Johnny), Darla Trujillo and Michelle Peshlakai, thirteen great-grandchildren Faith Romero, Alexis Romero, Santiago Romero (Avanecia), Brandon Vigil, Samantha Martinez, Hannah Martinez, Annalisa Vigil, Eliza Martinez, Johnny Martinez, and HazelGrace Vigil, Chris Torres, Tilana Torres, Mario Torres, four great-great-grandchildren, her former daughter-in-law, Rita Trujillo, as well as many extended family members and friends.
Virginia was a devoted wife to Estevan “Steve” Velarde for 42 years. Together, they lovingly raised their children, always providing unconditional love and support, especially to their son Thomas. Throughout her life, Virginia found great fulfillment in nurturing her family and building a home filled with warmth and care.
One of Virginia’s greatest joys was gathering her loved ones for Christmas Eve celebrations, a tradition that held special significance as it coincided with Thomas’s birthday. These gatherings allowed her to cherish precious moments with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories.
The family wishes to formally acknowledge and thank all those for the prayers, made visits and calls, and extended their support and kindness to Virginia.
A Public Visitation will began at 10:00 am on Monday, December 1, 2025, at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM, followed by a Funeral Service and Burial which will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 pm, following a reception at the Elks Lodge #460 Address: 1615 Old Pecos Trail, Santa Fe, NM 87505.
Serving as pallbearers are James Romero, Santiago Romero, Michael Romero, Jason Tapia, Johnny Martinez, and Sammy Trujillo.
