Maria Salazar

Maria S. Salazar, 78 resident of Hernandez, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Maria was born in Chili, New Mexico, and raised in Mesa de Poleo. Maria loved to cook for everyone who stopped by to visit with her. Sopapillas, tortillas, beans and green chili were her favorite things to cook. She also enjoyed spending time at the casino as a hobby.

Maria loved her daughters, son-in-laws, grandkids, and great grandkids. She had a special relationship with her brothers, and sister, nieces, nephews, and ahijados, and ahijadas.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents Antonio and Sorayda Martinez, sister Pablita (Alfonso), brothers Pacomio, Amadeo (Santana), and Fabian, daughters Emily, and Lori Son Pacomio, husband Pete, grandson Angel, and great grandson Jesse.

Maria is survived by her daughters Nancy, Antonia (Sergio), Sorayda (Antonio), Eva (Rumaldo), brothers Jose Leondro (Magdelena), Abad, Tia Mela, sister Eleanor (Albert), grandkids Teresa, Vanessa, Alex, Erik, Emily, Yolanda, Reina, Ashley, Miranda, Marcos, Samantha, Angelica, Matthew, Chris, Magali, Miguel, Aldo, great-grandkids Angel, Jaden, Ariel, Matthias, Skylee, Lilia, Antonio, Ximena, Marcos jr., Fabian, Oscar, Mariana, Yaneli, Anahi, Santiago, Alessandro, Luis, Elizabeth, Isabel, Sophia, Nayeli, special ahijados Onesimo, Alex, Marcos, ahijadas Katrina, Teresa, Heather, and many other nieces and nephews. A Rosary for Maria Salazar will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025, at the San Jose Catholic Church in Hernandez, NM, at 9:30 am, with Mass to follow.  Burial will follow at the San Jose Catholic Cemetery in Hernandez, NM.
