Clara Maria Vigil, 91, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family. She was born on July 9, 1931, in Rio Lucio to Manuel and Carlotta Medina. While living in Rio Lucio she met Ocelio Vigil where they married on August 7, 1951. They were married for 52 years and had eight children.
Clara stayed home and raised her children and in 1977 moved to Grants, NM where she began to work in the hospitality business. In 1986 she moved to Santa Fe, NM, there she worked at the Inn at Loretto for 23 years. Clara was a devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed going to the casino.
She will be missed dearly by all the lives she touched.
Clara was preceded in death by her husband Ocelio Vigil, sons Wesley, Benny, William, and Melvin Vigil, daughter, Anita Vigil, grandsons, Benny Vigil and Richard Chavez, parents, Manuel and Carlotta Medina, sisters, Amelia Rodriguez and Aneda Lopez.
Clara is survived by her children, Priscilla Varela (Darrell), Patrick Vigil (Judy), Bernice Tapia (Daniel), Karmela Vigil (Tim), daughter in law, Louanna Vigil, grandchildren, Wesley Vigil (Ashley), Rachel Michael (Mando), Krystal Vigil (Manuel), Lori, Melvina, Monique and Melvin Vigil, James, DJ, Joshua Tapia and 18 great grandchildren and sister-in-law Felicita Velasquez.
A Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2022, in the Sangre De Cristo Chapel of De Vargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Parish in Chimayo, NM. Burial will take place immediately following mass in the Trampas Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Darrell Varela, Wesley Vigil, Melvin Vigil, James Tapia, DJ Tapia and Joshua Tapia. Due to the concern in the increases of Covid, there will not be a reception after the services.
