Margarita Martinez, 98 from Ensenada, NM, passed peacefully on Saturday, December 18, 2021 surrounded by her loving family at home. She was born in Ensenada, NM on August 23, 1923, to George and Genara Valdez. She was a devoted Catholic and a long time Mayordoma of the San Joaquin Church in Ensenada, NM. Margarita worked for the Chama Valley Schools preparing amazing meals for many years. She was a very loving, caring, giving, generous and compassionate woman. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by those who loved her.

Margarita was preceded in death by her husband, Margarito Martinez, her daughter Patricia (Patsy) Hinds, grandsons Florito Cordova and Phillip Vigil, her parents George and Genara Valdez, brothers Alfonso and Mike Valdez, sisters Ciria Cordova, Eleanor Casias, Helen Chacon, Desideria Valdez, and Flor Valdez, son-in-law Tony Cordova, daughters-in-law Mary Ida Martinez and Rose Martinez.

Margarita is survived by her sons: Joe Martinez, Robert Martinez, Nestor Martinez (Janie), Anthony Martinez (MaryAnn), Michael Martinez (Linda), Joseph Sambrano (Beth). Daughters Lucy Cordova, Louella Sandoval (Dennis), Lorraine Vigil (Tomas), Margaret Martinez (Michael), 27 grandchildren, 55 Great-Grandchildren, and 6 Great-Great-Grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Ramon Valdez (Mague) and numerous other relatives.

A rosary will be recited at the San Jose Catholic Church in Los Ojos, NM, on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Ensenada Catholic Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers: Joseph Sambrano, Lawrence Cordova, Patrick Hinds, William Billy Hinds, Dennis Sandoval Jr, Carlos Martinez, Roman Martinez, Joseph Martinez, Thomas James Vigil. Serving as honorary pallbearers: Randy Martinez, TonyBob Martinez, Stephen Martinez, Waylon Hinds, Norman Salazar Jr., Randy Sandoval, Garrett Martinez, and Jamison Martinez.
