Margaret Montoya

Margaret M. Montoya was born July 26, 1941, to Hermando and Emilina Montoya in Espanola, NM. Margaret passed away peacefully with her daughter’s, Angela and Adelia, by her side on Monday June 23, 2025.

Margaret was proceeded in death by her brothers Lorenzo, Manuel and Lupe Montoya; her sisters Janet Montoya, Ida Ortiz, Inez and husband Henry Ortiz; brother-in-law Ramon Martinez.

Margaret is survived by her children, Lucas Jr and Rachel Cordova, Angela and husband Joseph Griego, Stephanie Cordova; grandson she adopted and raised, Christian Cordova and Adelia Herrera; grandchildren Claudette Cordova (Joe Olivas), Myron Cordova, Jaylen Archuleta and Audrina Montoya; great grandchildren, Aleah Cordova, Makeila Cordova and Nevaeh Olivas; brothers and sisters, Juan and wife Martha Montoya, Ramona Martinez, Josie Montoya, Rachel and husband Jim Lowe, Yolanda Montoya and Ernest and wife Linda Montoya. Margaret retired from State Government after 43 years to raise her grandson, Christian. She was a devout Catholic, a member of the Altar Society, Church Choir and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was known for her love of cooking, baking, tending to her vegetable garden and her large variety of flowers. She was also an expert in home remedios. She was a nature lover with a fondness for birds. She was a friendly, people person, spunky, outspoken, witty and quick with sarcastic comebacks.

Our love for Margaret makes her loss unbearable and leaves a large hole in our hearts.

The family wishes to thank Ava, Mary and Chris from Guardianship and Care Management for their exceptional care and love for Margaret.

The family would also like to thank all past and present staff at Morning Star of Santa Fe, Amor, Grace and Dan and all other staff at Enchanted Sky Hospice for all the love, friendship and care given to Margaret in the last years of her life.

A Special Thank you to Fr. Kevin from Santa Maria De La Paz for giving Margaret her last Sacraments.

A Rosary will be recited Monday, July 7, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. with Mass and burial to follow at Sacred Heart Church and Sacred Heart Cemetery, 908 W. Calle Rosario, Espanola, NM.

Serving as Pallbearers are Christian Cordova, Jaylen Archuleta, Joseph Griego, Myron Cordova, Michael Montoya and Joe Olivas will carry Margaret to her final resting place.

Honorary Pallbearers and her grandchildren, great grandchildren, Lucas Cordova Jr. and Adelia Herrera.
