Manuel Anaya

d. January 27, 2022

Manuel was 74 years old and lived in Alcalde 50 years.

Manuel loved the people of the Espanola Valley. He particularly cared for the homeless and those afflicted with drug addiction. He was a strong-willed man that fought for what he wanted. He defended many people and was a “hero” to many.

In true Anaya fashion he fought to the end for what he wanted. Giving the doctors who were trying to save his life a very hard time, refusing to die in a hospital alone, instead choosing to die at home, in his own bed with family around him. Covid restrictions were not going to tell him what to do.

He graduated from NNMC at age 55 and passed the state licensing exam of 250 questions, enough to make a doctor squirm.

Proud of his education and LADAC license his drug counseling days were traumatic because of all the death he saw, but he loved what he was doing.

Manuel was born in Lamy, NM on May 11, 1947. He is preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Teodorita (Dora) Gonzales Anaya, Brother -in-laws Paul (Cheetah) Garcia, Jesse Valdivia, and David Fleming; Sister Rosanne Valdivia and her sons Gabriel and Jesse. All these deaths took a part of him.

A loving husband, attentive father, and overprotective grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marcella Salazar Anaya; his sons Aaron and partner Amanda Francia, Fernando and wife Marisa, their children Atiana Archuleta, and the love his life , their son Ayden; Stepson Rey Miera and daughter Santana.
