Magdalena Chavez, 81, a resident of Española (formally of Vallecitos) passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete J. Chavez Sr.; parents, Jose Leandro Gallegos Sr. and Bersabe; brothers: Juan Gallegos, Leandro Gallegos Jr. and Lucas Gallegos; sisters: Olympia Vasquez and Bertha Martinez; father & mother-in-law, Alberto Chavez Sr. and Marina; brothers-in-law: Antonio M. Jaramillo, Amabeliz Vasquez, Espiridion Martinez, Albert Ocaña, Jose B. Archuleta, Max Chavez, Cristobal Chavez and Juan Chavez; sisters-in-law: Perfilia Gallegos, Acencion Gallegos, Benina Sisneros and Ernestine Chavez. Magdalena is survived by her children: Pete J. Chavez Jr. and wife Lorraine, Manuelita Chavez, Manuel Chavez Sr. and wife Beverly, Sammy Chavez and wife Linda all of Española; grandchildren: Tom and Chris Chavez, Angelina Chavez and fiancé Steve Maez, Pete J. Chavez III, Manuel Jr., Justin, Samantha and Autumn Chavez; great-grandchildren: KeAnna Chavez-War, Jasmine and Jeremy Maez; sisters: Deluvina Archuleta, Anita Martinez both of Española, Fidelia Jaramillo of Vallecitos, Ayola Ocaña of El Rito, Elevinia Salazar and husband Alex of Española; brother, Anselmo Gallegos and wife Lucille of Vallecitos; brothers-in-law: Ben Martinez, Albert Chavez Jr. and wife Grace all of Española; sisters-in-law: Ida Griego and companion Don and Ruby Gonzales of Albuquerque; many nieces/nephews & other loving relatives and friends. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 23, 2011 at 10:00a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Santa Cruz. Burial will take place at Vallecitos Cemetery.
