Maclovio (Mac) Herrera, 86, Española, NM, passed away on August 26, 2023. Mac was the fifth of twelve children born to Maclovia and Herculano Herrera.
Affectionately known as “Maco”, he lived much of his adult life in Los Angeles, Californina, working for the Northrup Corporation manufacturing both military and commercial aircraft. He proudly served in the United States Army, traveled overseas and received commendations as a sharpshooter. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching sports with his family and sharing opinions about games, players, strategies and coaches. He especially enjoyed horse racing, but most of all, he treasured following his beloved Dodgers and Lakers. Once he retired, he returned to Espanola and could regularly be found on his tractor working the land he was raised on, in La Loma. Mac was a cheerful and content person who rarely complained, even during his recent illness. He loved family get togethers, especially around the holidays. His only complaint was that he did not like to eat turkey or ham because they fed him so much of it in the Army.
Mac was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, Maclovia & Herculano Herrera. Sisters, Adela Rodriguez (Orlando), Carmelita Herrera & Rosalina Herrera. Brothers Hipolito Herrera, John E. Herrera, Herculano Herrera, Dennis Herrera, Ray Herrera and Sister-in-law Cheryl Herrera.
He is survived by his Brothers Horacio Herrera (Pauline) and Pat Herrera, his Sister Sylvia Atencio (Jerry) and Sister-in-laws, Vivian Felix and Diolinda Herrera.
He had numerous nieces and nephews who very much enjoyed his company. They always looked forward to hearing his perspectives, his stories and experiencing his never-ending, cheerful outlook on life. He never failed to make his family laugh and smile with his personal and unique brand of humor.
A rosary will be held on Thursday, September, 14, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Church in Santa Cruz, NM, and a mass at 11.00 a.m. The burial will take place on Friday, September 15, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
