Lydia Martinez

Lydia Ruby (Fresquez) Martinez, 80, a resident of Espanola, formerly of Leadville, Colorado, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Sotero and Anna Maria Fresquez; husband, Lee M. Martinez; children, Timothy Cochise, and Rebecca Martinez; many brothers and sisters and best friend, Minnie Martinez. Lydia was a very loving woman. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and traveling. In her younger years she was an amazing cook, providing amazing food for everyone who was hungry. She would always say “Don’t say goodbye, only see you later”. Lydia is survived by her children, Theresa Fresquez Gurule, Linda Martinez, Beverly Martinez Windorski, Lea Ann Martinez Lopez (Amador), Anna Maria Martinez Bueno (Raymond Long); children she raised, Timothy Martinez, Santiago Martinez (Sara), Nico Martinez; siblings, Sotero, Nino (Corinne), Martin Fresquez, and Anita Martinez (Joe); 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way.  A rosary will be recited on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, followed by a public visitation at 3:00 p.m. A second rosary will be recited on Monday, February 25, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. at the Cornerstone Church in Leadville, Colorado with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial to take place at the St. Josephs Cemetery in Leadville, CO with the following serving the family as pallbearers, Michael Cano, Rick Orenday, Dominick Gutierrez, Carlos Madrid, Teddy Gurule, Vinnie Martinez, T.J. Martinez, Nico Martinez, Anthony Martinez, Santiago Martinez and Devin Gonzales. Honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  The family of Lydia Ruby (Fresquez) Martinez has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
