Luis - Age 60 - Ohkay Owingeh - Medina

LUIS (P) M. MEDINA born June 14, 1951 passed away at his home in Ohkay Owingeh on early Wednesday morning, July 27, 2011. He was a well-known social worker in the Espanola Valley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julia M. Medina of Ranchitos and Feliberto Martinez of Española and his grandparents, Juan and Adela Medina; and his brother Geronimo B. Medina both of Ranchitos. Mr. Medina is survived by his fiancé, Thurza Torrez; brother Benjamin E. Medina and wife Amelia of Ranchitos; sisters, Adelita M. Medina of Ranchitos and Mary Alice Ortiz and husband Nicholas of Las Vegas, NM; and the nephew he raised as a son, Miguel J. Medina of Ranchitos; 8 nieces and nephews and 22 great nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 29, 2011 at 9:00 am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Burial to follow at the Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo Cemetery with Luis' nephews serving as pallbearers; Miguel, Manuel and David Medina and Joseph, Martin and Jesus Ortiz. Honorary pallbearers are all his football teammates from high school. The family of Luis (P) M. Medina has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
