Lucille
Maestas
d. Oct 4, 2026
Hernandez
With gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Lucille I. Maestas, who passed away peacefully on October 4, 2026, at her home in Hernandez, New Mexico, surrounded by family.
Lucille, lovingly known as Lucy, was a proud, hardworking woman whose faith, strength, grace, and joyful spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She found happiness in life’s simple moments, and her warm smile could brighten any room. Her humor brought laughter to those around her, leaving a lifetime of cherished memories.
After 16 years of service at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Lucy retired to help care for her granddaughters. She was an incredible cook, especially known for her tortillas and tamales. She enjoyed camping, fishing, and tending to her yard, and above all, she loved music.
Lucy was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend whose kindness and generosity touched everyone around her. She held her family and friends close to her heart, and nothing brought her greater joy than having her home filled with the people she loved.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Leo A. and Melvin Maestas; mother, Emma Morales; father, Joe Treviso; stepmother, Geneva Treviso; sister, Martha Kline; granddaughters, Melony Gallegos and Grace Gallegos; grandson, Joe Maestas; and Felix Trevizo, whom she considered a brother.
She is survived by her husband, Leo R. Maestas; daughters, Linda S. Gallegos (Robert) and Darlene Montano (Arturo); siblings, Raquel Avila, Lydia Winsemius (Jerry), and Joe Treviso (Nancy); 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many loving relatives and friends.
Though our hearts ache in her absence, her legacy of hard work, positivity, and fierce maternal love will live on in us forever. Rest peacefully, our beloved Lucy. You will always be missed and loved for eternity.
