Lucia (Lucille) Angelita Gallegos

January 21, 1945 — May 30, 2023

Our beloved mother, Lucia (Lucille) Angelita Gallegos, 78, of Vallecitos, NM, was embraced by her angels while surrounded by loved ones on May 30, 2023. She was born to Pablo Martinez and Carlota Duran on January 21, 1945.

Lucille is survived by husband Anselmo Gallegos and her children Lucas Gallegos Jr. (Carmen) of Canon Plaza; Sandra Garcia (Leonard) of Vallecitos; Felipe Gallegos (Nicole) of Alcalde; Grandchildren Erik, Lucas III, Tomas, Diego, Aubreyanna, Anjolie, Brody, Brayden and Brooklynn; daughter-in-law Crystal (Carlos); one brother Andy Martinez (Elisa) of Gallina.

She was preceded in death by her parents Pablo and Carlota Martinez, husband Lucas Gallegos Sr., brothers Vidal, Gavino, Orlando Martinez, and sister Mary Salazar.

Lucille was an active member of La Santa Cruz for many years.  She was employed by the Mesa Vista School District as a bus driver for 24 years.  During this time, she was also a cook and custodian for Mesa Vista.  She enjoyed her days with the students and co-workers.  She was known to the students as “Ms. Busdriver”.

Lucille was courageous, strong-willed, and resilient. Though life handed her many trials, she continued to live life to the fullest. She loved spending time with her loved ones, especially with her grandchildren and her many friends and family.  Lucille had a contagious smile and a beautiful soul. Her presence lit up every room and life she touched. She loved to sew, make jewelry, jelly and cook for anyone that came to visit. She also had a love for baking bread, making tortillas (the thick ones), gardening, camping, picking pinon, and often spent her free time enjoying life’s simple pleasures. She loved to watch her grandkids play sports and was an avid Mesa Vista Trojan fan.  Lucille was truly kind, selfless, and hilarious. She could literally talk to anyone and relate to them.

Lucille was devoted to her family and her happiest moments were spent among them. She loved having family dinners, Thanksgiving at the cabin, opening presents on Christmas, or simply sitting at the kitchen table having her coffee. She flourished whenever she was surrounded by her loved ones. Quality time usually consisted of her jokes and making everyone laugh. She devoted her life to being an amazing wife, mom, and grandmother. Though she will be missed, we know the best parts of her will live on through her children and anyone who had the privilege to know her.  Our special thanks to Ambercare, Santa Fe Cancer Center, and her doctors for their loving touch; and Father Jim for his beautiful prayers.

A public visitation will take place on Wednesday June 07, 2023 at 5:00 pm in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home and a rosary will follow at 6:00 pm.
