LOYDA M. SALAZAR, a resident of Española and originally of Alcalde, was called to her eternal resting place into the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 18, 2017. She was born to Juan Estevan and Josefina Romero Martinez of Velarde. Loyda was preceded in death by her daughter, Angela Salazar; son, Candido "Candie" Salazar II; infant daughter, Josephine Anne Salazar; brothers, Juanito, Ernesto and Daniel Martinez; sisters, Manuelita (Mela) Lujan and Flora Maes; and brother-in-law, Margarito Maes.
Loyda is survived by her daughter, Antonette and husband George Eichwald; sons, Augustin and Nicolas of Bernalillo, and son, Anthony J. Salazar; children, Antonio and Alia of Santa Fe; her surviving granddaughters whom she raised as her own, Candida L. Martinez and Marie Carmel Martinez of San Diego, CA. She is also survived by her brother, Joe R. Martinez of Santa Fe; her sister, Mary and husband Humberto Hernandez of Roseville, CA, sister-in-law, Tila (Ernesto) Martinez of Albuquerque; along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Loyda worked for the Española Municipal Schools as a library clerk for over 30 years, at Sombrillo and Alcalde Elementary Schools until her retirement. After her daughter, Angela’s death, Loyda took on the full-time care of her granddaughter, Carmel, until her stroke in 2015. Loyda was loved by all and will be greatly missed as she profoundly impacted countless lives. The family offers a special note of thanks to Gloria Trujillo for being such a wonderful friend to our mother.
Public visitation will begin on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Burial to follow at the Rosario Cemetery in Santa Fe with the following serving as pallbearers; George, Augustin, and Nicolas Eichwald, Juan and Andrew Martinez, A.J. and Antonio Salazar. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters. The family of Loyda M.
