Lourdes Bustos, a lifelong resident of Española, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in Española, Lourdes spent her entire life in the community she cherished.
Lourdes was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Andres Bustos; her son, Jose “Tito” Bustos; and her great-grandson, Jalen Bustos.
She is survived by her devoted children: Elizabeth Garcia and her husband Ernest Garcia; Diane Metzgar and her husband Ernest Metzgar; Joanne Ramirez and her late husband Domingo Ramirez; Andy Bustos and his wife Diane Bustos; Robert Bustos and his wife Pamela Bustos; and Dolores Trujillo and her husband Delbert Trujillo; daughter-in-law Kathy Bustos.
Family was the heart of Lourdes’s world. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great‑grandchildren. Her daily coffee trips, shared conversations, and simple moments with loved ones were among her most treasured routines. She looked forward to every visit, especially from her grandchildren and great‑grandchildren, whose presence always brightened her days.
She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Joseph Bustos (Sandra), Kimberly McDaniel (Jerimiah), Dino Bustos, Lori Bustos (Elmer), Ernest Garcia, Tracy Garcia (Cory), Robert Metzgar, Gavin Metzgar, and John Paul Metzgar (April) and Mathew Bustos (Amberly); as well as her 15 great‑grandchildren, who brought her endless pride and happiness.
A Rosary will take place on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 6:00 pm at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at 10:00 am at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, NM, with Burial at 1:00 pm at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.
Pallbearers will be Dino Bustos, Ernest Garcia, Mathew Bustos, Robert Metzgar, Gavin Metzgar and John Paul Metzgar.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Bustos, Andy Bustos, Ernest Garcia, Ernest Metzgar Joseph Bustos and Delbert Trujillo. Lourdes will be remembered for her warmth, her unwavering love for her family, and the quiet strength she carried throughout her life. Her legacy lives on in the many hearts she touched.
