On Sunday, October 25, 2020 Louise Maestas Esquibel went to be with our Lord. At 94 years old she died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family.

Louise was born on March 15, 1926 in La Puebla NM, married her husband Max on October 19, 1946 and spent 61 years together. She attended Santa Cruz High School, received her GED on October 21, 1974, worked at Los Alamos Fuller Lodge as well as Santa County extension service teaching others the art of preserving and enjoying food. She lived a life long devotion to her faith. She was a member of the Holy Family Association of Cuarteles, member of Sangre de Cristo Chapel in Cuarteles for 40 years, and choir member of the Holy Cross Church for 20 years. She never missed Sunday mass at Santa Cruz Church until she could no longer drive, and always found time to pray her rosary. She enjoyed life in many ways but loved gardening, camping, doing puzzles, playing cards and spending time with her family. She was also talented at composing "versos," and was asked by many to memorialize the death of a loved one.

She was preceded in death by her parents Andres and Sinforosa Maestas, parents in law Alejandro & Eloisa Esquibel, daughter Mary Louise Jaramillo, husband Max Esquibel, grandsons Chris Sherwood, John Sherwood, Michael Esquibel and Jaime Vigil, siblings Porfiria (Conce) Fresquez, Adela (Felix) Quintana, Carasiolo (Alice) Maestas, Oliby Maestas, Candido Maestas, Joe (Martha) Maestas, and brothers and sisters in law Donelia (Dan) Montoya, Marie (Tom) Carmen, Dora (Joe) Martinez, Josie Cervantes, Ernestine Trujillo, Gloria Herrera, Candelario (Della) Esquibel, Ramon (Edwina) Esquibel, Sam Esquibel, and Henry Esquibel.

She is survived by her children Irene (Earl) Sherwood, Barbara (Jimmy) Vigil, Charlie (Thelma) Esquibel, Max Gilbert (Anita) Esquibel, Andres Jaramillo (Stefan), Grandsons Marty Sherwood, Bonifacio (Tricia) Vigil, Joel (Camille) Esquibel, Carlos (Victoria) Esquibel, Matthew Esquibel, Danny (Erica) Esquibel, Alejandro Esquibel, Granddaughter Reina (Dwayne) Sanchez, 27 great grandchildren, 14 great - great grandchildren, and God children David Fresquez, Bobby Carman, Cecilia Montoya Martinez, Steven Quintana, Peggy Maestas Jimenez, Chirley Martinez, James Esquibel, Jamie Vigil, Carlos Esquibel, Michael Esquibel, Melanie Martinez, Melissa Sanchez, Danny Esquibel, Mary Montoya, Margie Quintana Lucero, Oliby and Lila Maestas, Josie & Joe Martinez, special nieces Cyndee Fresquez, Peggy Jimenez, Theresa Montoya and Judy Martinez.

The pallbearers are grandsons Joel Esquibel, Marty Sherwood, Danny Esquibel, Carlos Esquibel, Bonifacio Vigil, Matthew Esquibel and Alejandro Esquibel. Honorary pallbearers are all her great grandchildren and god children. Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers we ask that you donate in her name to her favorite organization, St Jude Children's Hospital. The family of Louise M. Esquibel has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
