Louisa - Age 97 - Chimayo - Martinez

LOUISA S. MARTINEZ, 97, a lifelong resident of Chimayo, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2011 following a brief illness. Mrs. Martinez was born in El Llano and graduated from McCurdy High School prior to attending New Mexico Highlands University. Mrs. Martinez served Chimayo and the surrounding communities as a school teacher for 36 years. She enjoyed reading, gardening, shopping and visiting with family and friends. She was a Madrina to 31 children. Mrs. Martinez was preceded in death by her husband, Ursulo Martinez; daughter, Celine Viola; parents, Antonio David and Romanita Salazar; sisters, Refugito Espinoza and Romie Martinez; brothers, Ismael, Natividad, Willie, Eloy, Solomon and Rafael Salazar; grandchildren, Amelia Martinez, Danny Martinez, Christopher and John Eric Olivas and Timothy Campbell. Mrs. Martinez is survived by her daughter, Viola Olivas; son, Roger Martinez and wife Karen of Chimayo; grandchildren, Doreen Campbell of Chimayo, Evangeline Tso-Olivas of Chimayo, Yolanda Martinez of Alcalde, Tana Martinez of Pecos, Maria Chacon of Alcalde, Isaac Martinez of Chimayo and Alejandro Martinez of Rio Rancho; 27 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Vitalia Moya and brother, Andres Salazar and wife Grace of El Llano; special niece and nephew, Tillie and Art Perez and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation and rosary will held on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 7:45 p.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Thursday, May 18, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. also at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Burial to follow at the Nuestra Señora de Dolores Catholic Cemetery in Chimayo with the following serving as pallbearers, William Trujillo, Jacob Tso-Olivas, Zachary Campbell, Anthony Trujillo, Isaac Martinez and Jerry J. Romero. Honorary pallbearers named are, Dayna Campbell and Christobal Tujillo. The family of Louisa S.
