Lorida R. Valdez 81, a resident of Espanola formally of Albuquerque and Canones, New Mexico, passed away on July 16, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.
Lorida was preceded in death by her grandfather, Belarmino Valdez, mother, Elena Valdez, brother A. B. (Belarmino) Valdez, nephews; Chris, Michael Jr., Michael (El Ferro Negro), Antonio and Adrian Valdez. aunts; Ramona Valdez, Teofila Vialpando, Angelica Valdez, uncles; Vito, Serafin (Luz), Polito (Irene), Christobal (Rafelita) & Arturo Valdez, like brothers; Lorenzo and Leroy Valdez.
Lorida’s past working endeavors were with the Espanola Hospital- Nursing Assistant, Electronic Tech – Various Company’s (did this work much of her work history). In her final years before retirement, she worked with Home Health Care Agencies as a Patient Care Aide. This was her passionate job working with troubled youth and developmentally disabled young adults. Lorida loved life, she was a woman of great faith and devotion, was a compassionate human being, hardworking and humble. She enjoyed dancing and spending time with family. Lorida was a self-proclaimed baker (family joke), loved the outdoors especially fishing, camping and working creatively around the house. Lorida suffered a severe stroke in 2007 which left her incapacitated. During these years she became a grandmother to her sister’s grandkids as she never had grandkids of her own. Many memories were built around this beautiful relationship.
Lorida is survived by her sister Gloria Garcia and husband Tomas of Espanola, brothers; Ralph Valdez and wife Josephine of Chamita, Tony Valdez of Espanola, Sister in-law; Dorothy Valdez of Ranchitos, Longtime friend Ardy Martinez of Albuquerque, like sisters; Vera Valdez of Espanola/Santa Fe, Diana Quintana of Placitas, Bernadette Sanchez of Albuquerque, Janet Sanchez of Santa Fe, like brother; Bobby Valdez of Ranchitos, niece; Kathy Valdez of Ranchitos, nephews; Andrew Valdez of Ranchitos, Bengie Valdez of Ranchitos, Melaquias Valdez of El Rancho, Eric Valdez of Chamita, Joey Valdez of Chamita, Brian Valdez of Santa Fe, Issac Valdez of Indiana, Julio Garcia of Espanola, and Ezequiel Garcia of Espanola, like her own grandkids; Kaytlyn Vigil, Alyssa, Matthew, Niko, Diego and Laney Garcia, god children; Issac Valdez, Julio Garcia, Diana Quintana, Michael Valdez ( El Fierro Negro)
A rosary will begin on Tuesday August 2, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, with a mass of Christian burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. also at Holy Cross, and burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Calvery Cemetery & Mausoleum in Albuquerque (1900 Edith Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102) with the following serving as pallbearers; Matthew Garcia, Niko Garcia, Diego Garcia, Esequiel Garcia, Julio Garcia, and Melaquias Valdez.
Honorary pallbearers: Alyssa Garcia, Laney Garcia, Kaytlyn Vigil, Vera Valdez, Janet Sanchez, Bernadette Sanchez, Diana Quintana, Kathy Valdez, Liz Garcia, Helen P. Martinez, Margret Montoya
