Lorenzo "Pencho" Barela

Lorenzo “Pencho” Barela, 55, a resident of Chimayo, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 6, 2019. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Filadelphio and Felipita Barela; maternal grandparents, Celestino and Elena Valdez; parents, Gilbert and Mary Barela; mother of his child, Karen Trujillo; brothers, Dennis, Bobby, Louie, and Ricky Barela; uncle, Andres Salazar and many nieces and nephews. Pencho enjoyed many outdoor activities, such as camping, fishing, hunting, and horse races. He was such an outgoing person. Once he would walk into the room, he would be the light. He would always greet and make sure he spoke to you. He had a heart of gold. He was always willing to help anyone. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Pencho is survived by his daughter, Nicole Trujillo; granddaughter, Demariz Lindzee Diaz; brothers, Felix Barela (Michelle Velasquez), Isaac Barela (Bernadette), and Ted Barela (Clarissa) all of Chimayo; sisters, Christine (Daniel) and Irene Barela (Adolfo) all of Chimayo; aunt, Nora Barela of Chimayo; close cousins raised as sisters, Flor Barela and Clarissa and Tony Rodriguez all of Chimayo; close friend, Judy Bustamante of Española and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and many friends. Public visitation will begin on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo with a rosary to be recited at 9:00 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Nuestra Señora de Dolores Cemetery in Chimayo. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Leroy, Andrew, Jr., Dennis, Felix Jr., Gilbert and Alfredo “Peter” Aguilar. Honorary pallbearers will be Teddy, Elias, Ever, Bob and James Barela.
