Lindy - Española - Akes, MD

LINDY K. AKES, MD, a resident of Española, passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Leonard and Helen Akes. Dr. Lindy Akes loved practicing medicine in Northern New Mexico; he had a passion for ranching and for the outdoor beauty of his home state. He took a personal interest in each one of his patients. Being a small town Physician was a very rewarding experience that brought him great pleasure. The one-on-one familiarity and relationships with each of his patients was something he took great pride in. He loved practicing medicine in Northern New Mexico communities very much as he followed in his father’s footsteps. In an era that has necessitated medical professionals to create a separation between themselves and their patients from personalized care and attention, Dr. Lindy Akes embraced the opportunity. He brought the old-fashion Dr.-Patient confidence back and held the trust of those that turned to him for care. He will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved him. Dr. Lindy Akes is survived by his wife, Barbara Akes of Española; children, Andrea Martinez, Renee Martinez and companion Anthony Montoya, Madison Akes and Luke Akes; grandson, Adam Montoya; brothers and sisters, Vernon, LeeAnn, Dixie and Aline and numerous other relatives and friends. Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 2:00p.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. The family of Lindy K. Akes, MD has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
