LeRoy Atencio

LeRoy G. Atencio , 73, a resident of Española, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 23, 2018. He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Bruce Atencio; parents, Alfonso and Alice Atencio and brother, Walter Atencio. LeRoy worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory and retired after 25 years of service. He was mechanically inclined and took up drag racing as a hobby. He set and broke several records with his 1969 Plymouth GTX. LeRoy was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Mr. Atencio is survived by his wife of 56 years, Josephine Atencio; daughters, Elizabeth Schwab (Kenneth) and Shirley Atencio (Emilio); grandchildren, Sister Maravillas of Jesus, Brother Elijah, Jacob Romero, Donovan Atencio, Devin Atencio and Landon Atencio; great-grandchildren, Aylisiana Romero, Jacob Romero II and Lorenzo Romero; brother, Dale Atencio and several other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family of LeRoy G. Atencio has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
