Leonard Torrez, Sr. 58, resident of Alcalde, originally from Petaca, NM went home to rest with our Dear Lord, January 12, 2022. He was born August 29, 1963. Hours after his passing, he was joined by his beloved son, his best friend, Leonard Torrez Jr. Leonard Sr. is proceeded in death by his parents Maclovio and Estella Torrez, brother Mike Torrez, sisters Clorinda Torrez and Louella Gutierrez, mother and father-in- law Juan and Anita Aldaz, brother-in-law Gabriel Aldaz and special cousin Adolfo Torrez.

His first passion in life was his family. His wife, beloved son, his daughter and one and only daughter-in-law, his four beloved granddaughters and his three towing partners, his dogs.

Leonard Sr. worked for the Los Alamos Proforce for 27 years before starting his dream profession of Torrez Towing and Recovery with his beloved son. He had great passion for coaching the local youth through EVCA basketball, EVYBSL T-ball and softball, Alcalde Leopard Basketball, CVMS Basketball, Volleyball, and Track before returning to his alma mater, his beloved Mesa Vista Trojans. He was the assistant coach, alongside his son for Lady Trojans Basketball and Lady Trojans Volleyball.

He was a lecturer well known for his Spanish readings at St. Anne’s Parish in Alcalde. He was also a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Leonard Sr. is survived by his beloved wife, Roberta Torrez of 37 years. His daughter LeeAnna Torrez of Alcalde, his daughter-in-law Renee Torrez of Alcalde, his four granddaughters Kylie, Jaslene, Emmalynn and Myla Torrez of Alcalde, Sister Ida (Johnny) Herrera of El Rito, brother Louie Torrez of La Petaca, brothers-in-law James (Dawn) Aldaz of Espanola, Marcelino Aldaz (Irene) of Colorado, Victor Aldaz (Geri) of Grants, Andrew Aldaz (Julie) of Arizona, Joe Aldaz (Angela) of El Rito, Gene Aldaz (Jeanette) of Los Alamos, sisters-in-law Geneva Martinez (Mel) of Arizona, Annabelle Trujillo (Robert) of Santa Fe and Beverly Torrez of Espanola. His many Godchildren, Emmalynn Torrez, Ryan Aldaz, Nelson Terrazas, Karlah Herrera, Louis Torrez, DeAvantae Baca, Elbert Gutierrez, Sylvia Maestas, Victor and Brenda Jaramillo, Mark and Ashley Mondragon, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A public visitation will take place on Thursday January 27, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at Mesa Vista High School gymnasium with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. a second visitation will take place on Friday January 28, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. and a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. also at the Mesa Vista High School gymnasium. A mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday January 29, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at San Juan Bautista Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh and a burial to follow at La Petaca Catholic Cemetery, in La Petaca .

Serving as Pallbearers are James Aldaz, Gene Aldaz, Charlie Baca, Erik Salazar, Johnny Herrera, Louis Torrez, Mike Torrez and Travis Aldaz.

Serving as Honorary Pallbearers: Ida Herrera, Louie Torrez, Elbert Gutierrez, his Mesa Vista JV Volleyball team and Mesa Vista JV Basketball team.
