Leonard “Papa” Jensen

Legacy isn’t a measure of what we accumulate; rather true legacy is the impact our life has had on others.  Papa, the simple truths for which you stood are timeless and the impact of your life is beyond measure. Your legacy lives on in the good lives of your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Leonard “Papa” Jensen was born January 3, 1936 in Jerome, Idaho, the fourth child of Hans “Al” and Lola Jensen.  On April 14, 2021 he was peacefully welcomed home by his parents, 3 sisters, 4 brothers and daughter, Dawn Marie.

In life, Leonard loved none above his wife of 64 years, Marilyn.  While dating, Marilyn made him work for her hand, milking cows on her family farm before each date.  There was no doubt “Pops” was up for the challenge and in 1956 the two were married in Arlington, Washington.  Leonard is survived by the love of his life Marilyn, his five children (Judy, Carla, Jim, Tom and Sherri), 15 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.

Leonard is remembered as a man of his word and taught that nothing is more important than integrity.  Keep your word and everything else falls in place.

He lived his life as a testament of his love for family and God. Leonard loved the Lord, serving as a Branch President in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 34 years.  He remains a pillar of strength to those both in and out of his congregation.

Leonard held the distinction of being a Lumberjack and Sportsman resulting in a love and respect for nature and hard work.  Papa led by example as he instilled these principles in his family.  At its height, Leonard Jensen Logging employed roughly 75 people who became an extension of his family.  Whether hunting, working, or playing, the time spent with this great man was treasured.

To some he was dad, to others Papa, to even more he was a friend.  No matter how you knew him, one thing is for certain, we will all miss him.

We invite those who knew and loved Leonard to join us in celebrating his life in an outdoor service on May 1, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Jensen Home.

The family has entrusted Leonard "Papa" Jensen's care to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of Espanola.
