Lino Salazar
July 30,1961 - June 26, 2025
Lino Salazar, 63, passed away unexpectedly and joined our Heavenly Father on Thursday June 26, 2025. Born and raised in Cañones, NM, Lino was the youngest of 12 brothers and sisters, shaping him into the adventurous, stubborn, fun-loving person many came to know. He loved fishing, hunting, dancing, and most of all, La Sierra. Lino was a heavy equipment operator, who retired after 25 years from Los Alamos County and most recently, worked six years with the road crew on the Santa Fe National Forest. He loved operating all heavy equipment and teaching anyone who wanted to learn. He lent a helping hand to all, never expecting anything in return. He said his greatest accomplishment was his family, proud of the life he built with Juanita, proud of his daughters and his four grandchildren. Never wanting to sit idle, he was always busy. Whether he was cutting meat, canning, making carne seca, or on the back of a horse working cows on the ranch. Dedicated and hardworking, he was always on the go with his loyal dogs in the back of his truck.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jacobo and Severiana Salazar, sisters Aggie Garcia and Virginia Trujillo, brothers-in-law, Rudy Herrera, Joe Suazo, and Floyd Trujillo, and his dearest niece, Verna Valdez.
Lino was survived by his wife, Juanita, of 41 years; daughters Amanda Vialpando (Wilfred) and DeAnna Salazar-Guaderrama (Lucas); Sisters Clara Suazo, Delfinia Gallegos (Lupe), and Antonia Herrera; Brothers Manuel, Jake (Katherine), Carlos (Rita), Lorenzo, Armando (Julie), and Cornelio Salazar; Brother-in-law Pete Garcia; and his Primo who was like a brother to him, Rick Velasquez. An immense loss to those who knew him, a friend to all who met him, he will be forever missed.
A Rosary will be held at 10:00 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, NM, on Monday, July 14, 2025. Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 am. A private burial will follow at a later date.
Honorary Pallbearers: Sobrinos Jacobo Salazar, Joseph Suazo, Mando Salazar, Estevan Gallegos, and Godson, Rudy Herrera.
