Lena "Frances" Sanchez

Our beloved Lena M. Sanchez (Frances), age 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 02, 2022, at her home in Espanola. Lena M. Sanchez was surrounded by her loved ones after a battle with cancer. She was born May 19, 1941 in Canjilon, to David “Papi Maes” and Estefanita “Pie” Maes. She married her late husband Jose Luis Sanchez on September 02, 1967, at the Nuestra Senora de Lourdes Chapel in San Juan.

Lena truly lived her life to the fullest through simple pleasures, chatting with her friends and family, drinking coffee, playing cards, and drinking mango margaritas with her boys. She enjoyed spending time with her brother and his family along with spending time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Most of all she enjoyed traveling with her husband. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Lena is preceded in death by her parents David and Estefanita Maes, her brother Peter Maes, sister-in-law Delcie Maes, nephew Tito Maes, and her loving husband Jose Luis Sanchez and Sexy Sadie (Dog). Lena is survived by her three sons David, Louie (Carianne) and Francisco (Georgia), Grandchildren, Soraida, Chenoa, Noelle, Garrett, Keanu, and Nazarene; Great-grandchildren Samantha, Sean, Joell, & Aj (Smiley). Lena’s brother, Paul Maes; nephew Dale (Michelle), nieces Lisa (Eric), & Eloisa (Terran); Great-nephews/nieces Jeremy, DJ, Terran, Jessica, Celina & Santana. Pallbearers who are honored to carry this lovely lady to her final resting place will be Dale Maes, Levi Maes, Carlos Hipolito, Arnoldo Loya, Leonard Atencio and Andrew Atencio.

A public visitation will begin on October 17, 2022 at 6:00 pm and a rosary to follow at 7:00 pm in the Chapel of Peace of Devargas Funeral Home.  Mass of Christian Burial will be on October 18, 2022 at 12:00 pm at St. John the Baptist Church in San Juan.  Burial will follow at 2:30 pm at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
