Lawrence Birch

d. September 13, 2021

Lawrence “Larry” Gaines Birch, son of the late Bob and Margaret Birch, brother of the late Bill Birch and Jack Birch, died on September 13, 2021 in New Mexico.  Larry was born on November 13, 1942 in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Larry was happily married to his loving wife, Faye Birch, who was his partner in life for over 55 years at the time of his death.

Larry and Fay called Tucumcari “home” and raised their family here.

Larry is survived by his wife, 2 children, Valerie “Val” Lombardo and Robert “Bob” Birch, his favorite son-in-law, Tony Lombardo, his favorite daughter-in-law, Paola Birch, 5 grandchildren, Mikaela Lombardo and Fiance, Tyler, Andre Lombardo and wife Alicia Lombardo, Toren Lombardo, Gavin Birch and Lylah Birch, and 2 great grandchildren, Levi Lombardo and Noah Lombardo.  Larry also has two surviving brothers, Mickey Birch and Pat Birch and two sisters, Joyce Davis and Judy Cochran.

Besides being a dedicated family man and loyal friend to all who knew him, Larry had the most infectious smile and was the greatest storyteller of all time.  Larry knew no strangers, just friends he hadn’t yet met.  His pleasant personality was contagious to everyone he met. His stories were so detailed and full of life, that he could make you feel like you were there right next to him when it all happened.

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Larry. He was a voracious reader, loved to drum, and absolutely loved the outdoors, especially at one of his “secret” fishing spots. He was an avid treasure hunter, traveling throughout the state in search of the elusive treasure trove. Larry was also a beloved volunteer for The Mission of Hope Food Bank. He was also a life-member of the BPOE Elks Club, Tucumcari, New Mexico. Larry certainly had the Gift of Gab which is part of the reason he was so successful in the Sales and Service Industry.  He and Faye owned and operated Blake’s Lota Burger in Tucumcari for many years, and later, Larry became a car salesman for Big Country Ford. Larry was well known for his one liners’ and his amazing one-of-a kind sayings that he will forever be remembered by.  He always listened intently to everyone he conversed with, because he genuinely cared about people and their well-being.  He could make you smile and laugh, even in the worst of moods.

A celebration of life will be held 13 November 2021, location to be determined, with a dessert bar to celebrate Larry’s favorite mealtime.

The family of Larry Birch has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley. 505-747-7477 www.devargasfuneral.com
