Laura Atencio, 83, a lifelong resident of Dixon passed way Sunday February 10, 2019. She was the most dignified person anyone could know. She loved, appreciated, respected and valued all individuals with a sincere heart. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband Dennis Atencio, her parents Alberto Martinez Sr. and Antonia (Tonita) Marquez Martinez; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Querino Atencio and Corina Atencio; sisters: Maria (Claudina) Ortiz, Marcella Martinez; brothers: Albert Martinez and Vidal Martinez; sisters-in-law: Martha Martinez, Mildred Atencio, Ernestina Gonzales, Vita Atencio and Angelina Atencio; brothers-in-law: Nelson Atencio, Hector Atencio, John Atencio, and Joe Ortiz; nieces: Yolanda Leyba, Sarah Vences, and Carolina Atencio; Nephews: Orlando (Landy) Atencio, Florencio Atencio, and Thomas Rivera.
She is survived by her sons Walter (Lupita) Atencio, Danny (Lucille) Atencio, Carl Atencio Sr., and her daughter Roberta (Craig) Scott; Sisters: Tillie (Gilbert) Trujillo, Frances (Eloy Pacheco) Lopez; brothers: Virgil (Lucy) Martinez and Dennis Martinez; sister-in-laws: Lynda Martinez, Helen Atencio, Florence Atencio, and Gloria Hernandez; grandchildren: Felicia (Ronald Jones) Atencio, Briana (Miguel Pacheco) Atencio, Phillip (Ashley) Martinez, Carolyn Martinez, Lynette Atencio and Carl Atencio Jr., Caitlin Scott, and Brandi Scott; great-grandchildren: Khalil Jones, Kyrie Jones, Aden Carabajal, Trinity Carabajal and Elijah Carabajal.
We would like to acknowledge AmberCare for the comfort and care provided to our mother. Special thanks to Devon, Claudette, Virginia, Emily, Mike and Dennis. Also, we want to express our gratitude to James Martin (PA) and Amanda Goertz (MD) from El Centro Family Health (Embudo Clinic). We appreciate the professional care Laura received from the doctors, nurses, aides and care coordinators at the Espanola Presbyterian Hospital. Finally, we are especially humbled and grateful to Dixon Volunteer Fire Department their awesome response, care and support of our loved one.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Embudo Presbyterian Church in Dixon, with a burial to follow at 2:15 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Jerome Martinez, Jamie Martinez, Reynal Martinez, Phillip Martinez, Don Trujillo, Carl Atencio Jr., honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
