Kimberly Martinez

d. January 6, 2021

KIMBERLY (Kim) MARTINEZ, 39, a lifelong resident of Chimayo, was called home by our heavenly father on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. For all those who knew and loved Kim, it can fully be understood and agreed upon that the greatest of things came in the smallest packages. Though Kim was small in stature, her presence, her smile, and her heart, were larger than life. Everywhere she went and with everyone she encountered, she left a great impression; a genuine, compassionate, sincere, and profound mark on the lives of people who are appreciating and remembering the life of this Once In A Lifetime woman. Kim lived life in the moment and to the fullest extent. She proudly poured her heart and soul into her daughter Kaylee and worked tirelessly to ensure that Kaylee was loved, treasured, and well taken care of. With any and all things, she worked to show Kaylee love and to make the greatest memories possible for her baby girl. In her school days, she was an exemplary phenomenal student/athlete from a very young age; a coach’s dream regardless of sport, who eventually took her love for sports and became a middle and high school girls basketball coach for the Pojoaque Elkettes. During her time coaching, she generously shared her knowledge, skills, and gifts with each young athlete that stepped foot on that hardwood floor and into her life. It was through coaching that she was able to further extend her reach into the lives and hearts of our future and she loved every minute of it. Kim was a wonderful example of being a strong independent woman who was successful professionally (an employee of the Los Alamos National Laboratory) and personally. She became someone people looked up and admired; a reachable, tangible role model for kids and adults alike. Kim was preceded in death by her mother, Beverly Patricia Martinez; brothers, Christopher and Jesus Martinez; biological father, Chris Martinez; grandparents, Juan and Mabel Duran; uncles, Arthur, John and Freddie Duran, and niece Patricia Garcia. Kim is survived by her daughter, light of her life, Kaylee Martinez; father, Felix Martinez; sisters, Monica Soveranez (Robert), Erminda Duran (Joshua), Jackie Martinez and Gloria Martinez (Randy); nieces and nephews Donald Martinez (Erica),Brenda George (Joey), Raquel Soveranez, Emily Aguilar, Samuel Duran, Danielle Torrez (Charles), Michaela and Marisa Martinez; special niece who was so close to her heart, Daijah Martinez, great-niece and nephews, Ayden Martinez, Lilly and Greyson Romero, Joaquin Aguilar, Hailey George; and numerous aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Samuel Duran, Donald Martinez, Joey George, Robert Soveranez, Randy Martinez, Joshua Duran, David Lujan Jr., and Charles Romero. Private services will be held. The services will be streamed live on the Holy Family Parish Chimayo YouTube channel.  The family of Kimberly (Kim) Martinez has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of Espanola Valley: 505.747.7477 - www.devargasfuneral.com
