Espanola

Kenneth (“Kenny”) Lee Martinez, also affectionately known as "Taz," to his family, was born on September 5, 1988, in Espanola, NM. He passed away on April 18, 2024, at the age of 35, surrounded by loved ones in his hometown.

A beloved resident of Espanola, Kenny deeply cherished his New Mexico roots. He graduated from Espanola Valley High School in 2007, where he showcased his athleticism as a member of the wrestling team and as a state-qualifying cross-country runner. Kenny had a passion for video production class, demonstrating his creative talents early on.

His professional journey led him to Northern New Mexico College, where he earned an Associates of Applied Science (AAS) in Computer Aided Drafting in 2010, followed by another AAS in Barbering in 2011. A true jack of all trades, Kenny excelled in various professions, ranging from barbering to mechanics, security, and serving as a Parks and Trails Specialist for Los Alamos County.

Known for his heart of gold, Kenny was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need and loved making everyone laugh. He was also an avid fan of the Denver Broncos, passionately cheering for his favorite team during football season.

Kenny is survived by his mother, Vicky Garcia; brother, Bobby Martinez; sister-in-law, Valerie Martinez; nephews, Rylan and Camden Martinez; girlfriend, Tammy Romero; and her daughter, Kayla. Additionally, he is survived by his several aunts; uncle, Louie Valdez; numerous cousins; and grandmother, Porfie Garcia; all of whom will continue to hold him dear in their hearts. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Frances Martinez.

A rosary will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 1:00 pm, followed by funeral services at 1:30 pm. Kenny will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Santa Cruz. Donations and flowers for the family are welcomed.

The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.

Kenny often found inspiration in the words, "To give anything less than the best is to sacrifice the gift," a quote he cherished from runner Steve Prefontaine.
