June E. Ryti, 91, of Los Alamos, born May 22, 1920 passed away after a short illness on September 9, 2011. June was a fourth generation Chicagoan who attended Bryant and Stratton Business College, married Warren Ryti, and started their family. In 1958 the family moved to Southern California and lived in Pacific Palisades and La Jolla. In both Chicago and California she was involved in church and community groups. After raising her family June became a real estate broker. She moved to Los Alamos in 1996 to be near family and become one of the founding members of LA Walks (a walkability advocacy group) and later was appointed to the County Transportation Board. June was an enthusiastic advocate for handicapped access and was a common sight in Los Alamos traveling in her electric scooter. She was one of the founding residents of the Oppenheimer Place Condominiums and served on the Association Board for several years. June enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, and crossword puzzles. Her children and their families will miss her: daughter Nancy Korman of San Francisco (Robert Korman, Christopher Korman); son Randall Ryti of Los Alamos (Wendy Swanson, Lora Whitmore, Benjamin Whitmore, Mikayla Whitmore). In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to the Multiple Sclerosis Society in her name. The family of June E. Ryti has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley. 505-747-7477
