JULIO ELOY MARTINEZ, 89, a resident of Rio Chama, passed away of a lengthy illness on Tuesday, July 11, 2017. Julio was preceded in death by his parents, Juan Antonio and Bernardita Martinez, Tia Ernestina Gallegos who he cared for many years; sisters, Neopumucena (Tena) Martinez, Maria Luisa Chacon, Tillie Martinez, brothers, Benceslado, Arsenio, Jose Benito, Max I., and Juan Andres Martinez. He enjoyed ranching, farming, barbering and carpentry. Julio is survived by his sister, Lucy Martinez and husband Sixto Sr. of Medenales; niece and nephew who he raised as his own children,  Bernie Sanchez and husband Joe,  Lorenzo Martinez and wife Patricia both of Rio Chama, nieces and nephews, Brenda, Maria, Anthony (Tara), Ricky, Lorenzo Jr. (Rhonda), Mario, AnnRica, Mercedes, Ira, Joseph, Hannah, Sarabeth, Mariah, Nicholas, Joleesa and Raeann all of Rio Chama whom he considered his grandchildren, and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins; special caregiver, Susana Mendoza of Espanola. Public visitation will begin on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at San Jose Catholic Church in Hernandez, with a burial to follow at the San Jose Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Anthony, Ricky, Lorenzo Jr., Mario, Alonzo and Sixto Jr. The family of Julio Eloy Martinez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley. 505-747-7477-www.devargasfuneral.com
