Julia Martinez, 95, a resident of El Llano passed away on September 9, 2023, in her home surrounded by loved ones. Julia was born on New Year’s Day in 1928 to Eutilia and Margarito Trujillo. She met the love of her life Martin Martinez and would celebrate 56 years of marriage until his passing in 2005. Julia worked as a cook for the Espanola Valley School District for 20 years and retired in 1997. She enjoyed cooking for her family and took pride on how she would prepare every dish. She always took time to show her family how to prepare her many popular recipes, such as biscochitos and pan de horno. Her favorite pastimes were visiting the casinos, shopping, visiting with family, and getting manicures from her granddaughter Crystal. Julia enjoyed attending all family events and would be the first one to arrive and the last to leave. Her loved ones could always count on her company for a day of shopping to visiting the State Fair. She was the core of her family and life will not be the same without her. She will be greatly missed.

Julia was preceded in death by her loving husband Martin Martinez, her mother Eutilia Viarreal, father Margarito Trujillo, daughter Josefita Trujillo, son Mike Martinez, sister Elvira Mendez, brother Bobby Viarreal, and father-in-law Miguel Martinez.

Julia is survived by her son Danny Martinez and wife Martha who lovingly cared for her till her last day, sons Freddie Martinez (companion Marlene) and Martin Martinez Jr., daughters Nora Duran (Rudy) and Linda Martinez (companion Lonnie), son-in-law Richard Trujillo, grandchildren that she had a special relationship with Lance Martinez (Dezi), Ashley Martinez (Phillip), Crystal Maestas (Paul), special great grandsons Jayden and Tristan who referred to her as “GG” and many other grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Susie Rascon (Gonzalo).

Public Visitation to begin on Monday September 18, 2023 at 5:30 pm at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM. Rosary to follow at 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday September 19, 2023 at 9:00 am at Santa Cruz De La Canada. Burial to follow at 11:00 am at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.

Serving as Pallbearers, Lance Martinez, Phillip Martinez, Maleki Vigil, Crystal Maestas, Nicholas Monroe, and Anthony Trujillo.
