Juan “Jimmy” Bustos Sr.

March 21, 1954 – November 28, 2022

Jim passed away peacefully after a long illness at the age of 68 on Monday, November 28, 2022, in Fort Worth, Texas. He was surrounded by his devoted family: his wife Lucille, his children Jimmy, Mark, Dana, and Christopher, his daughter-in-law Rachel, and his only granddaughter, Isabella Rose.

Born in Las Vegas, New Mexico, to Dan and Rosalie Bustos. He was preceded in death by his father, Dan Bustos, his siblings, Bobby and Johnny, sister Virginia, and his father- and mother-in-law Jose C. and Benita Garcia. May they all rest in peace.

A graduate of New Mexico State University, Jim earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a Structural option. His career was marked by his significant contributions to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Fort Worth District, where he managed many projects throughout Texas and across the United States. He retired in 2012.

Jim taught his children to be kind and help others; this was his philosophy in life. He set a perfect example as a loving husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, son, and brother.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Lucille, and his loving children, Jim, Mark and his wife Rachel, Dana, and Christopher, by his only grandchild, the "sunshine of his life," Isabella Rose, his mother, Rosalie Bustos, his brother Danny Bustos, and his sister Bea Jurgensen (and her husband Ken), his sister-in-law Julie Martinez (and her husband Ray), his brothers-in-law Joe, Paul (and his wife Lori), and Phil Garcia, his goddaughters Maria, Melanie, Katrina, and Danae, and many other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A Funeral Mass and Rosary in honor of Jim will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at Santa Cruz de la Canada Church in Santa Cruz, NM. The Rosary will begin at 12:30 pm, followed by the Mass at 1:00 pm.

The celebration of Jim's life will continue with a reception at the residence of Ray and Julie Martinez, located at 2 County Rd 544, La Mesilla.
