Josie Fresquez Vasquez passed away peacefully on the morning of September 20, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family and close friends during her final days, just as she had always surrounded them with her strength, love, and warmth.
Josie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Born in Espanola and raised in Llano, she carried the spirit of northern New Mexico in her heart throughout her life.
Josie was preceded in death by her parents, Elio and Facunda Fresquez, and her sister, Peggy.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Juanito Vasquez; her three daughters, Sharon (Eduardo), Crucita, and Elia; and her cherished grandchildren, Benjamin and Destiny. She also leaves behind her brothers Leroy, Albino, and Elifas; her sisters Irene, Darlene, Ruby, and Matilda; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Victory Faith Church.
In keeping with Josie’s wishes, the family kindly asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Juanito Vasquez. Josie often said she didn’t want flowers at her funeral—she wanted them while she was alive to enjoy their beauty.
Josie’s love, strength, and quiet wisdom touched all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
The family of Josie Fresquez Vasquez has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the beautiful Espanola Valley. 505-747-7477
