Joseph Ramon Lopez (Luna) passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at the age of 66. He was born March 19, 1957 and was a lifelong resident of Abiquiu, NM. A loving father and grandfather who enjoyed his family, going to the mountains hunting and fishing, and working with his hands – especially intricately carved crosses. Joseph was proud to have worked for artist Georgia O’Keeffe and sculptor, Juan Hamilton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Candelaria and Fernando Lopez; grandparents, Francisquita and Estiben Suazo and Agapita and Belarmino Lopez; brothers-in-law Anthony Gallegos and Larry Maestas.
Joseph was proud of his children and is survived by a loving granddaughter whom he raised, Destiny Mascarenas (Isaiah), his daughters, Jolene Lopez who took great care of him, Maxine Lopez (Javier), Jessica Lopez, and Melissa Lopez (Edwin), 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and the mother of his daughters, Beverly Lopez. He is also survived by his sisters, Frances Gallegos and Agapita Judy Lopez and brothers, Belarmino (Diane), Steve, and Margarito (Angela), his Aunt Clara Suazo, In-laws Leroy and Frances Maestas, sister-in-law Angela Suazo (Martin), brother-in-law Leroy (Polo) Maestas (Rhonda), and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Serving as Pallbearers are Belarmino, Steve, Ralph and Javier Dominguez, Isaiah Hice, and Irin Archuleta. Honorary pallbearers are Margarito, Fabian Martinez, Gabriel Padilla, Edwin Archuleta, and Rafael (Riley) Salazar.
Please join the family in celebrating the life of Joseph. A Rosary will be recited at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Abiquiú, NM on April 10, 2023 at 6:30pm. Funeral Mass is on April 11, 2023 at 10:00am followed by Burial at the Abiquiu Catholic Cemetery.
