Joseph P. Garcia, 77, was born August 18th, 1945, in Santa Cruz, NM to the late Josephine Garcia-Valdez. Joseph was a lifelong resident of the beautiful Espanola Valley. He passed away peacefully at his home, November 2nd, 2022, surrounded by his loving family and amazing Hospice Nurse, Trish. Joseph worked at LANL and retired after a long 22 years to enjoy life and his family. Joseph was a character, loved the gals, and was known for his crazy sense of humor. He was always making jokes out of everything, and definitely had to make you laugh for sure. Joseph loved to be home watching his old movies, listening to music, and of course watching his 49ers play. Joseph loved his sweets, loved to cook, and was super famous for his stuffing at Thanksgiving.

Joseph is preceded in death by his grandparents Joseph and Gloria Garcia, his mother Josephine Garcia-Valdez, Tony and Dora Bustos who raised Joseph as their own, brother Chris Bustos, and sister Gloria (Lala) Quintana, children Baby Joseph and Jody Garcia, and the mother of his children Lucille Garcia.

Joseph is survived by his children, Judy Garcia companion Lawrence Lucero, Jesus Garcia companion Debbie Sanchez, Leroy Lopez and Chris Taylor. His two Grandsons Johnny Garcia wife Kasey, and his “Bambino” Justin Garcia. These two boys were the light of his life and both held a very special place in his heart. His 3 beautiful great-granddaughters, Josie, Violet, and Alexis Garcia, who are gonna miss grampo Joe dearly, his only Goddaughter Nina DeVargas as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Serving as Pallbearers are Lawrence Lucero, Johnny Garcia, Leroy Lopez, Larry Lucero, Carlos Sanchez, and Derrick Sanchez.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Justin Garcia, Josie, Violet, and Alexis Garcia.

Public Visitation will be on Thursday November 17, 2022 at 5:30 PM in The Chapel of Peace at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory in Espanola, NM. Rosary will follow at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday November 18, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, NM.
