Jose Marcelino Martinez , 83, a longtime resident of La Mesilla, NM passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 1, 2019, surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness.
He is preceded in death by his parents Malaquias and Julia Martinez; sister, Marina Rosario and father-in-law Enrique Martinez.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Margie; son Marshall (Anika), granddaughter Athena; brothers and sisters Lee Straw , Bertha Jenkins, Pat Trujillo (Amarante ), Pauline Martinez (Henry), Melvin George Martinez (Daisy), Max Martinez, and Mae Martinez; Aunts, Anita Aldaz (Espanola), Gloria Danner, Sally Martinez ( California), mother-in-law, Lela Martinez; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Jose Marcelino, born and raised in Canon Plaza, graduated from McCurdy High School in 1956. He moved to California where he worked at General Motors. He then enlisted in the Army and served in Germany. Later returning to General Motors until retiring to La Mesilla NM, where he lived the rest of his life. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 5:30-6:00pm followed by funeral service at Sangre De Cristo Chapel of De Vargas Funeral Home and Crematory in Espanola, NM. Interment will be Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 9:45 am at National Cemetery. Reception at Marcy Park 7th Day Adventist Church at 702 Bishops Lodge Road, Santa Fe.
Serving the family as pallbearers are Alvin Aragon, Jeff Archuleta, Danny Martinez,, Eric Martinez, Josh Martinez and Bobby Martinez. Serving as Honorary pallbearers; Vences Abeyta, Manuel Griego III, Henry Martinez, Max Martinez, Melvin George Martinez and Amarante Trujillo. The family of Jose Marcelino would like to thank the staff at Del Corazon Hospice and Espanola Presbyterian Hospital for their dedication and care of our loved one. A deep appreciation to his caregivers; Jasmine Lara, Carmella Cuellar, Lara Ramos, and Maria Jimenez and a special thanks to Pastor Kevin Gonzales for always being there. To all our family, friends and neighbors for their prayers and support during this difficult time.
