Jose "Joe" Marquez

Jose “Joe” B. Marquez, 67, a resident of Ranchitos went peacefully on Tuesday January 10, 2023.

He was preceded in death by his son Joseph Marquez of Espanola, mother Anita Marquez and father Delfin Marquez of Ranchitos, paternal grandparents Enrique and Eliza Marquez, maternal grandparents Juan and Leonor Viarreal, and daughter-in- law Maria Elena Marquez.

Jose was a graduate from the Espanola Hornets in 1975. Jose enjoyed fishing, cruising, hanging out at the Ohkay Owingeh lakes, and spending time with his grandkids. He always looked forward to family gatherings and eating good New Mexican food. He had a special grandson Jerin in which he helped with his upbringing.

Jose is survived by his son Juan Marquez of Alcalde, daughter Theresa Marquez of El Llano, mother of his children Sandra Serrano, grandkids Sonya Marquez, Isaac Morales, Julian Morales, Jerin Marquez, and Kianna Estrada, brother Frutoso Viarreal and wife Porfie, sister Angie Marquez, nephews and nieces Ronnie Viarreal and wife Charlotte, Debbie Viarreal, Chassity Garcia and husband Isaac, great nephews Caleb Garcia, Grayson Garcia, and Tristan Viarreal. 

Serving as pallbearers Isaac Morales, Julian Morales, Jerin Marquez, Chassity Garcia, Ronnie Viarreal, and Tito Terrazas Jr. 

A Public Visitation will take place on Monday, January 16, 2023, at 5:00 pm in the Chapel of Peace at the DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM, with a Memorial Service at 6:00 pm.  Burial services will be on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Alcalde Cemetery at 11:30 am.

Honorary pallbearers are Sonya Marquez, Kianna Estrada, and Debbie Viarreal. The family would like to thank the Legacy Hospice Care staff, nuclear care Partners staff, David Sandoval for providing Bible based spiritual assistance, and everyone else who has been there through Jose’s care.
