Antonio “Tony” David Guillen, 83, a resident of Alcalde, NM, passed away on May 28, 2025. Tony was born on April 19, 1942, to Antonio B. and Estafanita Guillen. He was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Uncle, and Godfather, as well as a friend to everyone he met, welcoming everyone into his home.
Antonio was a man of many talents and passions. From a young age, he loved riding horses, playing sports, gardening, playing the guitar, and—most of all—dancing with Lillian.
He began his career as a custodian at Zia before moving on to various positions at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). After retiring from LANL, he worked as an Emergency Management Coordinator for Rio Arriba County, then as a security guard for El Mirador, and later at the New Mexico State Legislature. Antonio found joy in simple pleasures-- fishing trips, camping, watering his garden, Christmas caroling, playing guitar in bands, and participating as a devoted Hermano in the Morada.
Tony was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lillian Guillen, son William Eric Guillen; parents Estafanita and Antonio Guillen; In-laws Manuel and Marcelina Maestas son-in-law Robert A. Vigil; brothers Clyde Guillen, Benny Guillen, Frank Guillen, Lorenzo Guillen and Martin Guillen, brothers-in law Harold Herrera, Jose C Herrera, Edward Duda, Cornelio Maestas, Israel Maestas, Richard Maestas, Ramon Naranjo, Albert Vigil; Sisters Clorinda Duda, Bernie Herrera, sisters-in-law Angie Guillen, Clara Guillen, Nancy Guillen, Geraldine Arebalos, Felicita Vigil, and Rita Maestas.
Tony is survived by his daughters Veronica Guillen (Tony), Amanda Romero (Andy), Corina Vigil (Juan), and Melanie Guillen-Montoya (Eloy). Grandchildren Derrick Aragon (Melissa), Kimberly Sanchez (Julian), Michael Aragon (Carla), Erica Romero, Anthony Valdez, Aaron Aragon, Marlene Valdez (Chris), Kayla Martinez (Carlos), Matthew Vigil (LeeAnn), Tamara Montoya (Tristen), Jonathyn Montoya (Adam); great-grandchildren Christian, Breanna, Lilliana, Adan, Aayden, Arianna, Deluvina, BillyRay, Isidro, Cattaleya, Adryan, Porscha, Gabriel, Santos, Kyara, Elianna, Noah, Zacharyah, Devina, and Skylie. siblings Ernestine Herrera, Richard Guillen (Maxine), sisters in-law Esperanza Guillen, Stella Naranjo, Virginia Guillen and Fela Guillen, and many other relatives who loved him dearly.
A Public Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, DeVargas Funeral Home at 5 PM in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM. A rosary will follow at 6:30 PM. A second rosary will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at 9 AM at the St. Anne's Catholic Church in Alcalde, NM. Mass will follow at 11 AM. Burial to follow at La Villita Catholic Cemetery in Alcalde, NM.
Serving as Pallbearers are Derrick, Michael, and Aaron Aragon, Julian Sanchez, Anthony Valdez, Jonathyn Montoya, and Matthew Vigil. Honorary Pallbearers are Adam Pool, granddaughters, and his great-grandchildren.
