Chimayo

Jose De la Cruz Vigil passed away at the age of 93 on September 23, 2025 after a short illness. Jose was born and raised in Chimayo and later moved to Los Alamos where he spent most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War. He enjoyed the outdoors planting flowers, and going to Las Vegas, Nevada with his sister and niece and going to local casinos from time to time.

He was preceded in death by his wife Louise Melva and daughter Sofie Ann, parents Celestino and Esquipula Vigil, brothers Antonio J. Vigil (Margarita), Ricardo Vigil (Mary), Trinidad J. Vigil, sisters Ramona V. Garcia (Delfin) and Juanita Vigil, and a niece Mary Helen Vigil. He is survived by his daughter Regina Sanchez, his nephews Gilbert, Celestino, Manuel (Becky), George (Annie) and Robert Vigil, nieces Irene Roybal, Selina Trujillo, Gloria Vigil and Peggy Holiday (Steve) and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 10 a.m. at DeVargas Funeral Home with interment immediately following at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe at 1 p.m. 

The family of Jose Vigil have entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory.
