Johnny S. Wheeler 63, a resident of Cuarteles, NM passed on Sept 16, 2026. Johnny was born on Dec 19, 1962, in Fairview,NM to Raymond and Lydia Wheeler. Johnny attended San Juan Elementary then went on to John F. Kennedy Junior High then into High School, as Junior in High School Johnny decided to take a job in Artesia, NM working in the Oil fields. After working 5-6 years in Artesia Johnny decided to move back home to Chamita and took a job with Cordovas Roofing for a few years, as a successful roofer Johnny began roofing with Andy’s Roofing in El Llano, NM. It was during those years that Johnny met Patricia Ann Herrera who later became his wife. They had a son, Kenneth John Wheeler, whom they love very much. Johnny was an avid hunter, enjoyed gardening, loved to watch football and always enjoyed a good game of poker with the uncles and cousins on the Esquibel side of the family. After working so hard in the roofing industry Johnny began taking courses at Northern New Mexico Community College where he successfully graduated on the Dean’s List. He then went on to work at Los Alamos National Labs with the labor union, during that time he applied for a job at INTEL in Rio Rancho in which he successfully was offered and accepted a job there. After so many years working as a tech for INTEL he decided to work for Wheeler’s Fine Quality construction business, owned by his brother Danny Wheeler, which brought Johnny and Danny even closer together. Johnny was a beloved husband, father, son, a brother and a caring uncle to all his nephews and nieces whom he loved very much. Johnny was a quiet but loving person, he was always ready for his family whenever needed. Johnny had lots of friends and was well known.

Johnny was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Ann Wheeler, Grandmother Elosia Esquibel, his Father Raymond V. Wheeler; Brother Manuel “Rocky” Wheeler; Maternal Grandparents Alberto and Rosita DeHerrera; Paternal Grandparents Samuel and Mary Wheeler; Uncles Romolo DeHerrera; Paul Chavez; aunts Marie DeHerrera; JoAnn De Aguero.

Johnny is survived by his son, Kenneth J. Wheeler, mother Lydia Wheeler, brothers Raymond Wheeler Jr. (Carol), Anthony Wheeler (Debra), Danny Wheeler (Andrea), sister Theresa Herrera (Gilbert), sister-in-law Vicky Herrera, brother-in-law Steven Herrera, many aunts and uncles as well as nieces and nephews.

The services for Johnny S. Wheeler are as follows, A public visitation will begin on  Thursday, Oct 8, 2026, at 5 pm and a rosary at 6 pm in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of De Vargas Funeral Home. A Mass will take place on Friday, Oct 9, 2026, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, NM at 10:00 am. Immediately after the Mass the burial service for Johnny S. Wheeler and Patricia A. Wheeler will be held at La Puebla Cremation Cemetery with Decon Ernie. Following the completion of the burial services there will be a luncheon at the Chamita Community Center for the family and friends of the Wheeler and Esquibel Families, all are welcome.
