April 29, 2026
Johnny Lujan, 70, of Santa Cruz, NM, passed away unexpectedly on April 28, 2026. He has now been reunited with his beloved daughter, Maria Elena, whom he held close in his heart.
Johnny dedicated many years of service to Jemez Mountain Electric Cooperative, where he was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and quiet dedication. He took pride in his work and built lasting relationships with those fortunate enough to work alongside him.
A beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend, Johnny was a private man with a heart of gold. Though he valued his privacy, he was always present for his family and friends when they needed him most. His kindness spoke louder than words, and his steady presence brought comfort to many.
Johnny had a special way of staying connected, he never let a day go by without sending morning greetings to his loved ones. His messages, always filled with GIFs and emojis, brought smiles and laughter, becoming a cherished part of daily life for those who knew him. No text from Johnny was ever complete without that personal touch.
He found joy in the simple things, especially tending to his garden. He took great pride in maintaining a beautiful, weed-free yard and delighted in sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. His generosity and care were evident in everything he did.
Johnny was preceded in death by his daughter, Maria Elena Lujan; his parents, Rafael and Elena Lujan; his brothers, Gorgonio, Jerry, and Leroy Lujan; his sisters, Belma Sandoval and Vicki Padilla; his brothers-in-law, Gary Padilla and Robert Romero; his sisters-in-law, Gema and Donna Lujan; his nephews, Daniel Romero, Paul Lujan, Timothy Berry & Pernell Herrera; and his great-niece, Star Padilla.
He is survived by his loving siblings: Carlos Art Lujan (Ada), Manuelita Romero, and Ida Berry (Lee), along with many beloved nieces and nephews who will continue to honor his memory.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Lorraine Quintana and Tommy Velarde, who cared for and loved Johnny like a brother and were always there for him. Special thanks also to his “partners in crime,” Eli (Brenda) Gallegos, and Steve Martinez (Marcia), who shared countless lunches, laughs, and companionship with him. A special thank you goes to Linda Tafoya Sanchez for creating a beautiful piece for Johnny’s final resting place.
