Johnny Avila, 68, of Chimayo, NM, passed away on March 14, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his wife Brenda Lee Canales, mother Juanita Avila Velasquez, stepfather Arnold Velasquez; brother Jimmy Avila, goddaughter and niece Socorro Barela; grandparents Alejandro and Ermelinda Sanchez; Aunt Ninfa Maestas, Uncle Alex Sanchez, father-in-law Reuben Martinez and many other loving family and friends.

Johnny was passionate foodie and loved a Sunday football game featuring the Raiders. He loved his beloved grandchildren. One of his favorite things to do was going to church at the Light House in Chimayo. He was an avid historian and was inspired by people in history. He was an amazing and a devout husband until the very end.

He is survived by his sisters Margaret Avila (Andy Serrano) of Espanola, NM, and Leslie Guevara (David) of San Diego, CA, daughter Carmen Romero (Juan) of Las Vegas, NM, son Ryan Bradshaw of Chimayo, NM, stepsons Isaac Canales (Haley) of Texas, and Reuben Canales of Wisconsin, nephew Jessie Avila (Lydia Martinez) of Alcalde, NM, grandchildren; Jordan Bradshaw, Jasiah Bradshaw, Diego Valerio, Jasmine Romero, and Antonio Bradshaw, great nieces Jenae Avila, and Scarlet Avila as well as his half brother Larry Martinez of Rio Rancho, NM. He is also survived by his beloved fur babies Snowy, Tinker and Sugar.

A visitation will take place on March 19, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of Espanola. Burial will take place at a later date at the Santa Fe National Cemetery
