John B. “Butch” Durán, 48, a resident of El Llano passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2011. He was an accomplished wood craftsman, who created many beautiful works of art including furniture, doors and floors. He was devoted to his family, enjoyed gardening and was loved by all. John was preceded in death by his father, Juan T. Durán; brother, Arthur Durán; maternal grandparents, Fidelita and Conce Vigil and paternal grandparents, Teodoro and Susanna Durán. He is survived by his daughter, Vanessa Chavez Durán; mother, Mabel Durán; brothers & sisters: Kathy Trujillo and husband Josè, Dennis and wife Karen, Marjorie Maestas and husband David; Clara Martínez and late husband Jimmy, Laura Santiago and husband James, Beverly Martinez and husband Felix, Freddie and wife Rebecca, Susan Ellen and husband Robert Hedrick, Belinda Martinez, Mike and wife Lisa , Timmy and son Juanito, Robert and son Anthony, Daniel and wife Monica; special friend, Lisa Martínez; as well as many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces & friends. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Crúz de la Cañada with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Fernando Durán, James Santiago, Raúl Durán, Freddie Durán, Juanito Durán and Johnnie Valdéz; honorary pallbearers will be all his nieces & nephews.
