\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n Age 73, a resident of Velarde, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2010 peacefully with his family surrounding him. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 40 years, Lorraine Apodaca; daughter, Theresa Apodaca; step-son, Matthew Valdez; parents, Matias and Isabel Apodaca and brothers, Billy and Raymond Apodaca. John was employed for 20 years at Price Dairies in Albuquerque and Furrs Supermarket for 20 years until his retirement in 1999. He enjoyed going to the casinos and working in his yard. Mr. Apodaca is survived by his wife, Pauline Apodaca of Velarde; son, Earl Apodaca; daughter, Janet Apodaca both of Velarde; step-son, Leonard Valdez and wife Becky of La Posta; brothers, Henry Apodaca and wife Zelma and Manuel Apodaca and wife Susie all of Raton; sisters-in-law, Cleo and Elaine Apodaca, Ida Garcia and husband David, Maxine Saavedra and husband Michael and Jean Maez and husband Willie; brothers-in-law, Joe Garcia and wife Gloria, James Garcia and Henry Catanach; 6 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Sunday, February 21, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde. Burial to follow at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery in Velarde with the following serving as pallbearers, Sam and David Garcia, Daniel Apodaca Sr., Willie Maez, Henry Catanach and Charles Gilbert. Honorary pallbearers are John’s grandchildren, Isaiah and Jared Apodaca, Cruz, Vivian, Jackie and Lexi Valdez. The Apodaca family has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley. \r\n
