Joe R. Romero, beloved husband, son, uncle, godfather and friend, entered into eternal rest on December 21, 2024. A resident of Dixon for 42 years but originally from Ojo Caliente. Joe was strong in his faith and was a regular parishioner at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Dixon where he served as an usher.

He was preceded in death by his parents Federico and Guadalupe Romero, sibling Clarence Lee Romero, brother in law Ernesto Romero, sister in law Bertha Gonzales and Helen Griego.

Mourning his loss are his wife of 42 years of marriage who he loved dearly, Lupita Romero; a special cousin Raymond Gonzales (Dorothy); God-Children Monica Sandoval (Azuical), Pamela Alcala (Julio), Chantelle Reynolds (Chris), Gabriella & Serenity Martinez, & Moment Valdez; special nieces Vivica Valdez (Joseph), and Janice; Sister In-laws Ofelia, Ruby Gonzales and Elva Romero; many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  

Joe, served 4 years in the US Army where he was honorably discharged, continued his military service of 25 years in the New Mexico National Guard and was also employed through the NMDOT location in Santa Fe and with the chip seal crew statewide. He also worked through the Pojoaque Cities of Gold Casino as security where he made many friends and often visited as a hobby.  

We extend our appreciation and gratitude to all our family and friends for your prayers, generosity, and being with us through this difficult time in our lives. A sincere thank you to Father Clarence, St. Anthony's Guadalupanas, Pastor JD Miera-Martinez, Edward Martinez for reading the eulogy, DeVargas Funeral Home staff, AmberCare Hospice and US Veterans Hospital staff for the care provided for our beloved Joe. 

Joe is being carried to his final resting place by Joseph Valdez, Chris Reynolds, Randy Reynolds, Jimmy Romero, Julio Alcala, and Tony Velasquez. Honorary Pallbearers will be all his godchildren.

Rosary at 10:30 am, with Funeral Mass at 11:30 am, all at the St. Anthonys Catholic Church in Dixon, on Thursday, January 2, 2025. Burial will take place after Mass at the Santa Fe National Cemetary.
