Joann Atencio

d. September 21, 2021

Joann Martinez Atencio, 80, of Dixon, NM passed away peacefully on September 21, 2021 with her loving daughters at her side.  Joann had just celebrated her 80th birthday, she was born on September 5, 1941.  Joann is preceded in death by her parents, Remigio and Sofia Martinez, her siblings, Manuel Martinez, Antonio Martinez, and Patricio Martinez.

Joann is survived by her devoted husband, Amos (Andy); her two daughters, Gina Rodriguez (Tomas), and Eva Atencio-Perno (Kevin); and two grandchildren, Roman Rodriguez and Anissa Perno, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, brother and sisters-in-laws, and many dear friends.

Joann was a loving and caring person who loved her family deeply.  She was a beautiful mom, nana, aunt, sister-in-law, and friend.  Joann loved life and was happiest when she was enjoying time with her family.  She was a loving wife of 60 years to her beloved Andy.  Her family was her pride and joy, and she was so proud of not only her daughters but her beloved grandchildren, Roman and Anissa.  She enjoyed travel and family vacations and together with her family built many cherished memories.

Joann was an honor student throughout her undergraduate studies at Menaul School in Albuquerque where she was also an athlete.  She remained a devoted friend to her Menaul family and regularly attended homecomings and reunions, as well as weekly lunches which were her favorite times other than with family.

Joann chose her family first and was a homemaker and raised her two daughters while volunteering in the community of Dixon.  She assisted at Dixon Elementary School, she was a volunteer EMT, she assisted in helping locals obtain training for weaving, she was Secretary for the Dixon library, and so much more.

Our family wishes to extend special thanks to the many friends and family who have been a part of this journey with our family.  A special thanks to Joann's loving caregivers at Beehive.
