Jerry Anthony Cross 1973 - 2021

Jerry (“Jer-Jer”) Cross passed-away unexpectedly at age 47 on August 14, 2021, in Espanola, NM. He was born on October 27, 1973, in Santa Fe, NM. He is survived by his son, Joey Cross (20); his daughter, Gabriela Cross (8); his parents, Jerry and Patsy Cross; his sister and her husband, Joyce and Adam Gamble; his niece, Karahope; his nephew, Aaron; and many devoted aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.

Family and friends knew Jerry to be generous, extremely hard working, loving, and quick to lend a hand. He made friends easily and always gave his full attention to those he interacted with. A devoted fan of the San Francisco 49ers, he almost never missed a game when the team came out to Arizona to play. Jerry loved spending his free time outdoors--fishing, hiking, camping--and always enjoyed a lively conversation or a good movie.

In 1992, Jerry graduated from Espanola Valley High School where he played starting center on the varsity football team. After graduating, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training Education from New Mexico State University and a Master of Science in Sports Medicine from the University of Texas at El Paso.

Jerry was certified as an Athletic Trainer in 1999 and worked for fifteen years at Cortez High School in Phoenix, AZ. His tireless devotion, caring demeanor, and outstanding competence made him popular among student athletes and earned him the genuine respect of coaches and staff. Having followed in his father’s footsteps, Jerry also worked for many years in the restaurant business, taking his first job as a dishwasher at age 12. He later worked at several restaurants, including those at the Santa Fe Ski Basin and the Santa Claran Casino.

Rosary to be held at DeVargas Funeral Home on Thursday, September 9, 2021, from 5:00 PM to 7:00PM.

Mass to be held at St. Anne Parish on Friday, September 10, 2021, at 10:00AM.

Reception to be held after Mass at Tiny’s Restaurant & Lounge in Santa Fe.
