Jeremias “Jerry” Torres, 90, resident of Espanola NM, passed away peacefully as he slept in his home, Sunday morning February 6, 2022, after a brave battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Jeremias was born September 4, 1931, in Truchas NM., the son of Doroteo and Felicitas Torres. He will proudly and fondly be remembered as a loving and generous husband, son, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, padrino and friend. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Anita, daughter Teresa, sons Joey and Vincent, granddaughter Theresa Celeste, parents Doroteo and Felicitas brothers Elizardo “Eddie”, Abedon “Abe” and Elmer, sisters Melecia, Maida and Evila.

Jeremias is survived by his son Jeremias II “Jerry”, daughter Catherine “Tiny” ( Michael ), grandchildren Joshua, Karla Jo ( Joseph ), Nathan, Audrey, Lauria and Gabriel, great grandchildren Saahur, Eliziah, Ankara, Ukko, Eliina, Manu Antonio and Eden Anita, sisters Lita, Loida, Margarita (Genaro), Bennie (Fidel), brothers in-law Armando C de Baca (Agnes), Tony Chavez, sisters in-law, Isabel Torres, Loyda Torres, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and special family member Mari Fernandez.

Jeremias was an educator, retired from the Espanola Public Schools where he served in many different capacities other than teacher. He was a devout and faithful Catholic, long time member of La Iglesia de Santa Cruz la Canada, serving as Commentator, Eucharistic Minister for daily Mass as well as many other activities and organizations, to many to mention here. Jeremias was a proud US Army Veteran serving during the Korean War and active member of the Fourth Degree of The Knights of Columbus.

Jerry and Anita were avid travelers and loved traveling together. They traveled the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, Europe and the Holy Land. Traveling was a passion they shared with family and friends, making friends wherever they went.

Public visitation will be on Friday, February 18, 2022, at 6:00 pm with the Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada. Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, February 21, 2022, at 1:30 pm also at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada. Christian burial at Holy Cross cemetery will follow . Serving as Pall Bearers will be Saahur, Ukko and Manu Antonio Torres, Gabriel Cournoyer, Robert “Bobby” Romero, Ron Sandoval and Uriel Fernandez.

The Torres family extends their most sincere expression of gratitude to Mari for her love and friendship and to the staff at Del Corazon Hospice for the excellent care and service while caring for Jeremias during his illness. A special thank you is also extended to special friend and Eucharistic Minister, Isabel Trujillo for providing Jeremias with the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist every Sunday without fail.

The family of Jeremias Torres has entrusted the care of their loved one to De Vargas Funeral Home and Crematory.
