Obituary

Janet Archuleta, a resident of Ranchitos, New Mexico, and formerly of Chimayo, sadly passed away after fighting a long battle with cancer on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her father, Antonio “Tony” Ruiz; her brother, Anthony Ruiz; her daughter, Sherrie Lujan; and her father-in-law, Jerry Alarid.

Janet lived a full and remarkable life. She touched the hearts of everyone she met and truly possessed a heart of gold. She and her husband enjoyed countless adventures together, including riding their Harley-Davidson on many bike runs around the country. Above all, Janet loved being a grandmother, treasuring every single minute she spent with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Steven Archuleta; mother, Susie Ruiz; mother-in-law, Nettie Alarid; son, Miguel Lujan and wife Sandra Lujan; grandchildren, Khloe, Eva, Julie, and Landyn; great-grandson, Asher; step-daughter, Marissa Maldonado and husband Miguel Maldonado; daughter-in-law, Nicole Marchello; sister, Bertha Sapcutt and husband Ronald Sapcutt; brother, Micheal Sherwood and Lavern Sherwood; brother-in-law, Andy Archuleta and wife Vicki Archuleta; and nieces and nephews, Joshua, Brianna, Lavianna, Lauanna, Greg, Alyssa, Jamie Lynn, Kiley, Jessica, Adrianna, Cienna, Ashley, Elisia, and Heather. She is also survived by her cherished friends Nina DeVargas,and sons Josh, Eric, Judy Garcia ,Doreen Lopez, and many other extended family members and friends.

The family wishes to extend their deepest thanks to the hospital staff, caregivers, and Hospice for their immense compassion during her final days. A special thank you goes out to hospice nurse Hedi, and oncology nurses Nicole, Lisia, and Cynthia. They would also like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at De Vargas Funeral Home and Pastor Mike for their comfort and guidance.

A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of De Vargas Funeral Home.  

The family of Janet Archuleta has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory of the beautiful Espanola Valley 505-747-7477.
